Roku has breathed new life into the beleaguered Spiderwick Chronicles series.

We reported in August that Disney+ had decided to axe the much anticipated upcoming before it aired a single episode.

The move came as part of Disney’s cost-cutting cull of non-Disney/non-in-house productions that claimed Willow, Big Shot, National Treasure: Edge of History, and The Mysterious Benedict Society among others.

The Paramount Television Studios production vowed to find a home for the series, which at the time of publication of our last article already had a six-episode potential first season already completed.

“It is an honor to bring The Spiderwick Chronicles, a spectacular adventure-filled story led by the incredible Christian Slater and Joy Bryant, exclusively to The Roku Channel,” Roku Media head of originals Brian Tannenbaum announced in a statement today.

“We cannot wait to introduce this exquisitely crafted series, imagined by a world-class creative team, to millions of streamers.”

Paramount Television Studios president Nicole Clemens added “We are elated that The Spiderwick Chronicles has found a new home and want to thank The Roku Channel for their passionate partnership. Our showrunner Aron Eli Coleite has crafted a beautiful series full of all the enchantment that made the books so beloved, and we can’t wait for audiences to meet these wonderful characters.”

It is understood that Roku plans to air the show as an 8-episode event series early in 2024.

Based on the famous book series by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black The Spiderwick Chronicles is described as a modern coming-of-age story/ fantasy adventure, and follows the Grace family (twins Jared and Simon, their sister Mallory, and mother Helen) as they move into their dilapidated ancestral home and began to unravel a dark mystery about their great-great uncle who discovered a secret and foreboding faerie world parallel to their own.

The series stars Christian Slater, Hunter Dillon, Jack Dylan Grazer, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Noah Cottrell, Lyon Daniels, Mychala Lee, and Joy Bryant.
