What do Heels, Run the World and Blindspotting all have in common?
If you said all 3 dramas recently completed their second seasons on Starz, you would only be half right. As of today, they’ve each been axed by the premium cabler.
What’s more, Starz is passing on The Venery of Samantha Bird, a new drama series which was in production before the Writers’ strike, and was set to star Katherine Langford in the title role.
Wresting drama Heels, starring Arrow alum Stephen Amell, focused on the wrestlers of the Duffy Wrestling League, a small and independent operation Amell’s Jack Spade inherited from his father and which he now struggles to keep successful.
Amell was the subject of criticism for comments he made during the SAG-AFTRA strike that seemed to suggest a lack of support for striking unions. At the time, the actor stated his belief that striking was a “myopic” move, and that strikes in general are a “reductive negotiating tactic.”
Amell later backtracked on his stance, stating that his comments had been taken out of context.
Run the World followed a group of friends living in Harlem as they navigate life, careers, and relationships. Amber Stevens West, Bresha Webb, and Corbin Reid starred.
Blindspotting, a sequel to the film of the same name saw Jasmine Cephas Jones reprising her role as Ashley, a middle-class Oakland native whose world is upended when her partner of 12 years and father of their son, Miles (Rafael Casal), is locked up unexpectedly.
