Upcoming Mandalorian project The Mandalorian and Grogu (working title) has had an update, but it’s not one fans will like.

The movie is not expected to see a release until at least 2026. That’s according to Deadline’s recent report on Disney’s 2024 CinemaCon presentation. The studio is expected to officially unveil several projects at the studio/exhibitor convention on Thursday afternoon, including an official release date for the Star Wars project.

The movie will be directed by The Mandalorian showrunner Jon Favreau, who shares producing duties with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni.

“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” Favreau said previously. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

“Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen,” added Kennedy in an earlier statement.

The Mandalorian series from Disney+ took place five years after the events of Return of the Jedi and the fall of the Galactic Empire. The series followed Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), a lone Mandalorian bounty hunter hired by Imperial remnant forces to retrieve a force sensitive child (Grogu), but who instead goes on the run to protect the infant from sinister forces.
