Disney’s “Lando” Series Pivots to the Big Screen

It appears Disney’s recent cost-cutting measures have affected Star Wars’ Lando project in the best possible way.

Back in 2020 when Disney announced during investor day that Lando, a spin-off of Solo: A Star Wars Story was headed to its streaming platform Disney+ for mini-series treatment there was palpable excitement among hardcore fans, especially when it was revealed that fan favorite Donald Glover would reprise his role as the charming and mercurial Lando Calrissian.

Since then Disney has worked to cut back on programming outside of its own IP, and to spread that precious IP over over years instead of months, placing the fates of several shows in limbo and on the cancelation chopping block.

Fast forward to today, and a segment on the Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast with Atlanta EP, Stephen Glover who also happens to be co-writer on the series with his brother Donald (News had already broken back in July that the brothers had replaced Justin Simien as writers), where Stephen reveals that the series, amid all the back and forth of the writers strike, will now be a movie.

“It’s not even a show,” explains Glover in the podcast. “The idea right now is to do a movie.”

Although Glover was reluctant to say more, it’s clear that with more creative control over the storyline, and the opportunity to bring the project to the big screen, this is a clear win for Lando.

More as we have it.
