Season 2 of Netflix’s runaway success Squid Game is just around the corner.
The streamer announced today that the show will officially return to our screens on December 26, 2024.
Set 3 years after the events of the first series, in which 456 unsuspecting players were pitted against a series of lethal puzzles, and occasionally each other, for a prize of 456 billion won, we learn that winning participant Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), aka Player 456, is back from the States with a new resolution in mind.
Gi-hun once again dives into the mysterious survival game, starting another life-or-death game with new participants gathered to win the top prize of 456 billion won.
Although season one saw the death of almost every player, Netflix confirms that some familiar faces are set to return for Season 2 including Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo.
Newcomers Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri, and Won Ji-an will all join the cast as an ensemble of colorful new characters.
Director, writer, and producer Hwang Dong-hyuk told Netflix “I do have a lot on my shoulders, but I’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.”
