Fans of Mike Flanagan’s recent works will surely recognize a slew of familiar faces in this teaser trailer for his latest project The Fall of the House of Usher.
Based on the works of Edgar Allen Poe, Usher promises to deliver a creepy Succession vibe as it follows family patriarch Roderick Usher (Bruce Greenwood), the CEO of a successful but ultimately corrupt pharmaceutical company, Fortunato Pharmaceuticals.
Roderick and his family each face a grisly demise after a mysterious person from their past resurfaces to lay their family secrets bare.
“It’s batshit crazy in the best possible way,” says Usher actress Carla Gugino. “It has quite a lot of very dark humor, but also really touches the soul.”
Gugino takes on the role of Verna, a demonic shape-shifter whose origins can be traced back to a very famous Poe character. “There is a fantastical supernatural element to the story, and she is the manifestation of that,” added Gugino. “Verna isn’t one to be played with. You could say she’s the executor of fate or the executor of karma.”
The series also stars Mary McDonnell as Madeline Usher, Carl Lumbly as Auguste Dupin, Mark Hamill as Arthur Pym, Michael Trucco as Rufus Griswold, T’Nia Miller as Victorine Lafourcade, Paola Núñez as Dr Allessandra Ruiz, Henry Thomas as Frederick Usher, Kyliegh Curran as Lenore Usher, Samantha Sloyan as Tamerlane Usher, Rahul Kohli as Napoleon “Leo” Usher, Kate Siegel as Camille L’Espanaye, Ruth Codd as Juno Usher, Sauriyan Sapkota as Prospero “Perry” Usher, Zach Gilford as Young Roderick, Willa Fitzgerald as Young Madeline, and Annabeth Gish as Eliza.
The series is created by mike Flanagan, directed by Mike Flanagan and Michael Fimognari, and executive produced by Trevor Macy and Flanagan of Intrepid Pictures; Emmy Grinwis and Michael Fimognari.
The Fall of the Usher premieres on Netflix on October 12.
