Arcane Season 2 is coming, but fans will have to wait until November 2024 for season 2 of the Emmy award-winning Steampunk action adventure series to hit Netflix.
News of the second season’s scheduling dropped yesterday as part of Netflix’s annual Geeked Week announcements. (Check out the brief teaser below).
Arcane is based on the League of Legends multiplayer online battle arena game developed and released by Riot Games in 2009. The Netflix series was created by Christian Linke and Alex Yee and produced by the French animation studio Fortiche in partnership with Riot Games.
Arcane tells the origin story of two iconic League of Legends champions, sisters Jinx (Ella Purnell), also known as Powder, and Vi (Hailee Steinfeld).
The pair find themselves on rival sides of a brewing war between the utopian city Piltover and its oppressed underbelly Zaun. Powder and Vi are completely transformed by the end of the first season, as Powder becomes the mischievous Jinx, and Vi proves she’s one champion you don’t want to mess with.
Upon release, Arcane set the record as Netflix’s highest-rated series within a week of its premiere, ranking first on the Netflix Top 10 Chart in over 50 countries, and second on the chart in the United States. Season one won critical acclaim, with several critics hailing the series as one of the best video game adaptations ever made.
In 2022 Arcane won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program, making history as the first ever streaming series to do so.
It also won an Annie Award for Best General Audience Animated Television Broadcast Production in the same year.
