HBO has given the green light to more True Detective.
The show will be back next year for a fifth season, helmed by Issa López, who showran, wrote and executive produced this season’s True Detective: Night Country.
Lopez is under a new multiyear overall deal with HBO to create content exclusively for HBO and MAX.
“From conception to release, Night Country has been the most beautiful collaboration and adventure of my entire creative life,” said Lopez.
“HBO trusted my vision all the way, and the idea of bringing to life a new incarnation of True Detective with Casey, Francesca and the whole team is a dream come true. I can’t wait to go again.”
Night Country was the most watched season of True Detective to date, with 12.7 million cross platform viewers.

In season 4, detectives Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) are called in to investigate when eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace in the long winter night of Ennis, Alaska.
The season, which concluded on February 18 also starred Finn Bennett, Fiona Shaw, Christopher Eccleston, Isabella Star LaBlanc, and John Hawkes.
Guest stars included Anna Lambe, Aka Niviâna, and Joel D. Montgrand.
