Who’s Your Daddy: Hulu’s Axing of “How I Met Your Father” Leaves Fans Hanging

Hulu has axed How I Met Your Father after 2 seasons, it was revealed today.

The comedy series, set some 8 years after the events of the long running classic sitcom How I Met Your Mother, was based on an entirely new friend group, featuring Sophie (Hilary Duff), Jesse (Chris Lowell), Charlie (Tom Ainsley), Valentina (Francia Raisa), Sid (Suraj Sharma) and Ellen (Tien Tran).

Recurring stars included Kim Cattrall, Daniel Augustin, Ashley Reyes, and Josh Peck. Original How I Met Your Mother stars Cobie Smulders (as Robin Scherbatsky) and Neil Patrick Harris (as Barney Stinson) also made cameo appearances.

How I Met Your Father was told from the perspective of an older Sophie (Cattrall) who is telling her son the story of how she met his father. Like the original series, each episode then returned to present day to follow Sophie and her friends as they navigate life, love, and careers.

However, suffering mixed reviews throughout its freshman season, the series found it difficult to step out from the shadow of its enormously successful sibling, and with dwindling audience interest, Hulu made the decision to pull the plug some 2 months after the show’s second season finale.

Although the season 2 finale may have suggested Jesse might be Sophie’s future Baby Daddy, fans of the short-lived series may never find an answer to the show’s most fundamental question.
