There’s bittersweet news for fans of Netflix’s animated series Arcane.

A long awaited second season will finally drop in November 2024, continuing the story of sisters Jinx/Powder (Ella Purnell, Fallout) and Vi (Hailee Steinfeld, Hawkeye) who find themselves on rival sides of a brewing war between the utopian city Piltover and its oppressed underbelly Zaun. However the upcoming season will also be the series’ last.

Arcane Co-creator Christian Linke shared his thoughts on the upcoming final season during a League Dev update, reassuring fans there is more to come in terms of future projects based in the same universe.

Arcane is just the beginning of our larger storytelling journey and partnership with the wonderful animation studio that is Fortiche,” said Linke. “From the very beginning, since we started working on this project, we had a very specific ending in mind, which means the story of Arcane wraps up with this second season. But Arcane is just the first of many stories that we want to tell in Runeterra.”

Arcane is based on League of Legends, the multiplayer online battle arena game from Riot Games. The animated series was created by Linke and Alex Yee and produced by the French animation studio Fortiche in partnership with Riot Games.

Netflix teases that Season 2 will see Jinx’s attack on the Council setting the stage for a dire escalation of the conflict between Piltover and Zaun.
