Remedy fans eagerly awaiting news of Alan Wake 2’s latest DLC “The Lake House” were treated to a first look at the new expansion during Sony’s State of Play event today.

A companion to summer’s “Night Springs,” the new instalment is slated for an October 2024 release, and will be exclusive to the Alan Wake 2 Deluxe Edition, with a storyline that sees events occurring in parallel to those in the main game.

The player will control FBC agent Kiran Estevez (Janina Gavaknar), who featured in Alan Wake 2.

Remedy teases that “Reckless experiments have caused reality to collide with the Dark Place in… The Lake House. Monsters wear many faces… and survival is just the beginning.”

While no further details were forthcoming, eagle-eyed fans are speculating that the character of Dr. Jules Marmont and the unchecked experiments at the Lake House may play a role in events. Marmont, along with his wife Julia, led the team there under the oversight of the Research Department of the FBC.

In Alan Wake 2 Final Draft, Doctor Casper Darling (Matthew Porretta) of Remedy’s Control briefly appeared in one of 3 easter egg videos discussing an entity dubbed ‘the Shadow’ and alluding to the work being carried out by the team at the Lake House research station. (Darling also made appearances in the other videos.)

In the AWE expansion, a memo from Estevez to the chief of the FBC’s Investigations Department complains that the Lake House is not sharing their research data or, for that matter, even stating what exactly they are researching there.

In Alan Wake 2, we learn that the FBC is experiencing problems with their monitoring station, no doubt partly hampered by the activities of the Cult of the Tree members, but in all likelihood also by their own mishandling of the Dark Presence.

Later in the game, it is revealed the Lake House has been attacked by the Dark Presence/Shadow, with no known survivors.

Estevez and her team arrived to support backup, but events quickly overtook them, with the team taking heavy casualties. Playing as Saga Anderson (Melanie Liburd), we meet a rattled and injured Estevez soon afterwards.

With an aesthetic that marries Remedy’s Control with Alan Wake 2, “The Lake House” looks likely to further solidify Remedy’s franchises both stylistically and thematically, and set the groundwork for the upcoming Control 2 game.
