Burt Bacharach, the legendary composer behind some of the 20th Century’s most enduring songs has died, aged 94.

Bacharach’s publicist Tina Brausam announced the news today, revealing that the composer had died of natural causes at his home in Los Angeles.

During his career Bacharach amassed 73 Top 40 hits in the U.S. as a songwriter, and more than 50 in the UK.

Some notable film mentions in his impressive life-long catalogue include Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head (from the western Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford), and title tunes to The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Casino Royale, What’s New Pussycat?, Moonraker, Arthur, and Night Shift.

Bacharach’s pop single career was equally prolific. He composed hits for The Carpenters, Tom Jones, Dionne Warwick, Dusty Springfield, Barbra Streisand, Luther Vandross, and many more.

“Burt’s transition is like losing a family member,” Dionne Warwick said in a statement. “These words I’ve been asked to write are being written with sadness over the loss of my Dear Friend and my Musical Partner. On the lighter side we laughed a lot and had our run ins, but always found a way to let each other know our family, like roots, were the most important part of our relationship. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, letting them know he is now peacefully resting and I too will miss him.”

Bacharach is survived by wife Jane Hansen and three children.
