It’s offiicial. CBS has officially uncanceled SWAT, and leading man Shemar Moore has nothing but good things to say today about the move.

News of the show’s cancelation struck not just fans, but the show’s cast by surprise. Moore took to Instagram to vent his frustration that the six year old show would bow out without an official end.

“But to abruptly get told that you’re canceled when you led us to believe last week and the week before that … that we would have some semblance of a season 7 to at least say goodbye, if not continue, and to abruptly be told you’re done…now there’s a lot of politics, a lot of things called licensing, a lot of you won’t understand what that means…its all about money, y’all,” Moore wrote.

However, in a surprising about-face, CBS decided to pick up the drama for a seventh and final season in which the cast, along with Moore’s Hondo, will have an opportunity to bow out gracefully over 13 new episodes.

“Ayeee!!!!!” Moore wrote on Instagram. “We did it #SWATFAM!!! @swatcbs is coming back for a 7th and final season with 13 episodes!!! Thank you to all of you for the continued and amazing support!!”

SWAT joins 14 CBS shows returning for the 2023-24 TV season, including Blue Bloods, Bob Hearts Abishola, CSI: Vegas, The Equalizer, Ghosts, the FBI trilogy, Fire Country, NCIS and NCIS: Hawaii, The Neighborhood and Young Sheldon.

Not returning this TV season are East New York, NCIS: Los Angeles, and True Lies, this years trio of notable cancelations.
