Production has commenced on the second season of HBO’s Game of Thrones spin-off series House of the Dragon, at Leavesden Studios in the United Kingdom.
“House of the Dragon has returned,” said Ryan Condal, Co-Creator, Showrunner, and Executive Producer, in a statement. “We are thrilled to be shooting again with members of our original family as well as new talents on both sides of the camera. All your favorite characters will soon be conspiring at the council tables, marching with their armies, and riding their dragons into battle. We can’t wait to share what we have in store.”
Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, the series is set some 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and tells the bloody story of House Targaryen. Featuring an ensemble cast, the 10-episode first season portrayed the events leading up to the beginning of the decline of House Targaryen, a devastating war of succession known as the “Dance of the Dragons”.
Season 2 cast includes Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans.
Additional returning cast includes Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, and Matthew Needham.
House of the Dragon is from co-creators and executive producers George R.R. Martin and Showrunner Ryan Condal; Executive Producers Sara Hess, Alan Taylor, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Loni Peristere, and Vince Gerardis.
