System Shock is finally coming to console!
Developers Nightdive Studios and PLAION announced that the remake of the award-winning sci-fi action game is headed to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Series X|S on May 21, 2024.
Nightdive teases that fans can look forward to an expanded ending, and a new female hacker protagonist. Additionally, the game will be available in both physical and digital formats on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
System Shock will be released in digital format only on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Originally released in 1994 by developers LookingGlass Technologies and publishers Origin Systems., Nightdive successfully crowdfunded the release of a remake of the classic action adventure, with initial development kicking off in 2015, following campaign raised more than $1 million in funding.
The remake was initially developed in the Unity engine, but following a long development cycle and a switch to the Unreal Engine, System Shock was released for Windows in May 2023.
Nightdive is synonymous with obtaining rights to abandonware video games, updating them for compatibility with modern platforms, and re-releasing them via digital and physical distribution services, and in doing so, supporting the preservation of older beloved titles.
